Once annotated – you can use Endnote “Search Library” function to search on any field in the Endnote record – including “Any Field + PDF with Notes”.For example, sections of the article PDF text can be highlighted and annotated with your personal notes…so that you can remember those important sections that you planned on discussing in your manuscript! Your Endnote PDF attachments can also be edited and saved. If the article PDF is less than 10 years old or so, there is a good chance that the publisher has already embedded citation information on the PDF that Endnote will extract from and create a citation record. If you have article PDFs already downloaded living in a folder on your computer but have not yet brought in the corresponding citation information from a bibliographic database, try importing the PDF by going to File>Import> File... and selecting “PDF” as your import file. The “Find Full-Text” feature effortlessly harvests available full-text article PDFs and actually stores them as object (or “attachments”) in the corresponding Endnote record. Here are just some of things you can do with PDFs in Endnote X7: This may also help me understand strange translations, e.g.Writing a research paper often generates more electronic files than most authors bargain for – especially in the form of full-text article PDFs! Endnote (desktop version) has many features that can now help you get the most out of your PDFs and keep them in one tidy, well-organized, and fully-portable place. I'd like to know more about how Zotero imports using RIS, how it assigns the fields and any translation quirks such as importing in a certain order, e.g. Then for each Reference Type I have to go through and move the UR field above the L1 field in the list?Īlso, in the exported RIS file, could I add semi-colons in fields with multiple entries, such as PDFs, keywords,URLs, and Zotero can then import multiple items? I have to go to Endnote, Edit > Output Styles > Open Style Manager, and double click on RefMan (RIS) Export > Bibliography, Templates. Thanks noksagt, OK just to make sure I've got this correct: Whatever, I shall go through my Endnote database and remove multiple URLs in the URL field.

So, when importing, why does Zotero effectively move the (now redundant) PDF file location from N1 into the UR field, and in so doing move the URL? This RIS file has the exported URLs listed in a field "UR", and the attached PDF file in a field "N1". The RIS text file from the Endnote export has field labels. If my reference in Endnote has multiple URLs and/or multiple PDFs then they are not imported. If my reference in Endnote has a single URL and a single attached PDF, the URL is imported into Zotero as a Note and the PDF link goes into the Zotero URL field. This is how the import process is working now: If my reference in Endnote has a single URL and no attachment, the URL is imported into the Zotero URL field. Using the Zotero translator is an interesting idea, but wouldn't that slow up the import process? I have 1000+ references to import from Endnote, and I can see it falling over if it had to seek the translators for each one.
